A year of enjoyable construction brought this lesser-known battleship of the French Navy to life. The CONDORCET, one of six DANTON-class battleships, was built in the early 20th century and saw action during the First World War, among other conflicts. It was designed using older technology and can therefore be classified as a pre-dreadnought battleship.
Some technical characteristics:
- Length: 146.6 m
- Width: 25.8 m
- Propulsion by means of 4 steam turbines
- Speed: 19.25 knots
- Crew: 25 officers and 831 sailors
- Main armament: 2 × double 305 mm turrets and 6 × double 240 mm turrets
The kit is from HobbyBoss on a scale of 1/350. Added are a set of metal railings from B&D Barrels and a figurine set from L’Arsenal.

All PE, plastic and metal parts ready for painting
Construction went smoothly and additional details are accentuated by the included PE sets. Not all parts were glued immediately in order to simplify painting and weathering at a later stage. For example, I painted the chimneys, lifeboats and gun turrets separately and only added them at the end. Even unpainted, the model looks impressive with all the PE and metal parts.
Since the CONDORCET spent its entire career in the Mediterranean, I painted the figures in shorts and work shirts. The sailors have the typical blue cap with a red button. To present the model, I made a wooden display and used the supplied nameplate as an addition.
