This small 1:72 scale kit from Revell (Nr. 03198) is a 2014 release and depicts the GTK Boxer used by the German Bundeswehr. The armoured vehicle is manufactured by Rheinmetall and consists of two modules, a driver’s module and a mission module. Several countries have purchased the Boxer, including Germany, the Netherlands, Great Britain and Australia.
Because the vehicle consists of a mission module, it has a wider range of functions, from command post to ambulance, infantry vehicle, bridge layer and even a 155mm artillery version. The module can be changed in the field within an hour to meet the current tasks that need to be carried out.
Technical specifications:
- Length: 7.93 m
- Width: 2.99 m
- Height: 2.38 m
- Weight: 25.2 t (without the mission module)
- Speed: 103 km/hRange: 650 km
For my model, I chose a typical German version of the 93rd Panzer Battalion stationed in MUNSTER (GERMANY). It is a typical Revell kit with hard dark green plastic and just enough detail to do justice to the 1/72 scale. Although intended for this kit, the PE set did not always fit well and not all pieces fit the original kit equally well. There are a few options in terms of armament and I chose the 40mm GMW (automatic grenade launcher). The kit can be built as in real life with the driver’s module and the mission module. For the daring, this could become a beautiful logistical diorama where the mission module is being dismantled….
The rest of the finishing work went smoothly in the familiar German camouflage pattern, and extra attention was paid to the necessary wear and tear and signs of use on the vehicle.
